SXSW 2025 Announces Film Line-up & Opening Night TV Premiere of “The Studio” with Seth Rogen

Starting March 7, 2025, Austin, Texas, will host various cinematic events for the 32nd edition of the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival. For an entire week, the SXSW Film and Festival will present attendees with an expansive collection of Feature Films, TV projects, and XR Experiences.

The SXSW Film and Festival will kick off with the Opening Night TV Premiere of ‘The Studio’ at the Paramount Theatre on March 7, 2025. Developed by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, the Studio is an upcoming American comedy series set to be released on Apple TV+. The series will star Rogen, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders with the first two episodes airing on March 26, 2025.

The 2025 SXSW Film and Festival headliners and world premieres include The Accountant 2, Ash, Death Of A Unicorn, Drop, and Holland.

The Accountant 2

The Accountant 2 is an action/ thriller movie directed by Gavin O’Connor and produced by Ben Affleck, Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams with Bill Dubuque as the screenwriter. It stars Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who launders money for some of the most dangerous criminals in the world. For The Accountant 2, Christian Wolff is brought out of hiding by Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina after someone close to them is killed by unknown assassins. To solve the murder, Wolff must recruit the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax. The cast include: Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, J.K. Simmons (World Premiere)

Ash

Ash is an upcoming American science fiction horror-thriller film directed by Electronic hip-hop producer Flying Lotus, produced by Nate Bolotin amd Matthew Metcalfe and written by Jonni Remmler. The film stars Eiza González as a woman on another planet whose space station crew is killed and Aaron Paul as the rescuer, she isn’t sure she should trust.

Death Of A Unicorn

Death of a Unicorn is an upcoming American comedy horror film written and directed by Alex Scharfman and produced by: Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Alex Scharfman, Lars Knudsen, Tyler Campellone, Tim Headington, and Theresa Steele Page. The film stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as father and daughter who accidentally hit and killed a unicorn while in route to a weekend retreat. The saga continues as his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties. The full cast include Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes (World Premiere)

Drop

Drop is a suspenseful thriller about a woman terrorized by anonymous messages on her phone, featuring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar. The film is directed by Christopher Landon and produced by Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller with Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach as screenwriters. Full cast of the thriller include: Meghann Fahy, Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Ed Weeks (World Premiere)

Holland

Directed by Mimi Cave, Holland is a thriller movie starring Nicole Kidman as Nancy, a teacher whose life with her husband in Holland, Michigan, tumbles into a twisted tale when she and her colleague become suspicious of a secret. The film was also produced by Kidman alongside Kate Churchill, Peter Dealbert, and Per Saari. Written by Andrew Sodroski, the full cast includes: Nicole Kidman, Matthew Macfadyen, Jude Hill, and Gael García Bernal.

Showcasing a diverse array of talent, the Film & TV program will feature 96 full-length films, including 82 World Premieres, 3 International Premieres, 3 North American Premieres, 2 U.S. Premieres, and 6 Texas Premieres, in addition to 57 short films and 18 music videos.

The TV Program includes 16 TV projects, with 5 TV premieres, 4 TV Spotlight, and 7 Independent TV Pilots. There are 31 projects in the XR Experience Program, including 15 in XR Experience Competition and 16 in XR Experience Spotlight.
