Social Surge, an apparel brand focused on Universal and Human-Centered Design, announced the debut of their first universal and sustainable clothing line. Launched today, Social Surge’s inclusive styles blend accessibility and fashion together to make getting dressed easier. Promoting the acceptance of people of all body images and identities, Social Surge strives to bring about social change by looking at the consumers’ input to dictate its designs.
Social Surge is also dedicated to sustainability and its clothing line features ethically sourced fabrics. The team works closely with Triburg, which is uniquely dedicated, devoted and committed to making clothing that is better for the planet.
Social Surge is rooted in the core belief that all people are more alike than different. Finding inclusive apparel has always been a challenge because the industry has been focused on ease of production instead of universal design. By analyzing the challenges people with disabilities face on a daily basis and learning about their specific requirements, the Social Surge team has created designs that enable people of all abilities to dress with confidence, dignity, self-reliance, and personal style.
Social Surge Ambassador and part of the design team, Mark Raymond Jr.’s life changed in a split second when he broke his neck and became a C-5 quadriplegic. During Mark’s recovery he realized the design gap. “As someone who went from being able to put on whatever clothes I wanted without a second thought to having to rethink about how to get dressed, I have been an enthusiastic contributor to the process of bringing the initial Social Surge collection to market,” he said. “After all, don’t we all want to get dressed easier?”
Social Surge goes beyond adding adaptive features to clothing by adding new perspectives. For example, one of the collection’s unique features is Braille on the pocket and sleeve of the hoodie that indicates the brand logo and color. This feature makes it easy for someone who is visually impaired to know what hoodie is hanging in the closet or is being pulled out of the dryer. For someone who is not visually impaired, the Braille lettering functions as a unique design feature. This is just one example of how Social Surge makes fashion and function work together seamlessly.
The initial Social Surge collection includes the following products in navy, white, black, and black and white tie-dye in sizes XS to 2XL:
- Heroic Hoodie – constructed from an ultra-soft organic cotton and recycled polyester blend, this hoodie is equipped with an upward-facing zip pocket. The pocket design makes it accessible for a wheelchair user. It also helps people who are visually impaired or of any ability to search in their pocket without dropping items. Additionally, The Social Surge Logo and the color of each hoodie is printed in Braille with 3D silicone gel on the pocket and the sleeve for easy identification. MSRP $89

Embodying the Social Surge spirit, The Universal Quantifier logo is an upside down “A”, which is a mathematical notation that means “For All”.
