It’s going to be a gaming weekend in Austin, Texas! On July 29th the Bullock Museum will be opening Pong to Pokémon: The Evolution of Electronic Gaming exhibit in the Rotunda Gallery for one month. Visitors will be able to play classic video games for free and view dozens of rare artifacts. This opening is the exact same weekend as the Classic Game Festival and ExpeditionHacks Hackathon happening in Austin as well.
Visitors will discover the scope and impact of the electronic gaming industry as a cultural and technological phenomenon through a behind-the-scenes look at the technology and artistry that drive modern game development.
There will be dozens of rare artifacts brought together for the first time from extensive collections across the globe will be on display. Collections will feature key milestones in technology, art, music, and design that forever intertwined video and games. The exhibition also features Texas entrepreneurs and innovators, game development and player community leaders, artifact collectors, and more, to show how Texas contributes to the fastest growing industry in the world!

- Text-based adventures for early home computers
- Oregon Trail
- ZORK I
- Arcade console classics through support of Arcades4Home
- Centipede
- Ms. Pac-Man
- Home game consoles and handhelds from the 1970s and 1980s
- Modern home games using advanced controllers, mobile devices, and home comuters and offering personalized gameplay and outlets for user creativity
- Guitar Hero
- Wii Sports
- Angry Birds
- Minecraft
Playable games in the exhibit will also include arcade classics and classic console re-releases from Atari 2600, Nintendo NES and Sega Genesis.
Bullock Museum galleries are open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Admission includes access to all exhibitions and re-entry throughout the day. Members get in free every day, all year long.
