Atari & PLAION Revive 1986’s Atari 7800 with Compact Editon Console & Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest

Most kids from the 80s remember the Atari boom and the release of the Atari 7800 console that included Pac-Man, Pole Position II, Robotron: 2084, Galaga and more. The iconic interactive entertainment brand and PLAION, a global leading publisher and developer of video games, have announced the Atari 7800+,  a recreation of the Atari home console originally released in 1986.

The Atari 7800+ will not be exactly like the original 7800, it will feature a scaled-down, compact edition of the console that integrates into modern living spaces. The revamped console is equipped with HDMI connectivity plus effortlessly links to contemporary TVs and devices.

Furthermore, the console includes the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad, a recreation of the radical controller Atari released with the 7800 in Europe in the ‘80s. Gamers will be able to play nearly any classic Atari 2600 or 7800 game, as well as brand-new 2600+ and 7800+ releases.

For those who recall Crystal Castles, the arcade video game released by Atari, Inc. in 1983, the 7800+ also ships with its sequel, Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest. In this specially designed 7800 cartridge sequel to Crystal Castles, you’ll find power-ups, hidden paths, a challenging variety of enemies…and one adorable bear.

The Atari 7800+ Console Features:

  • Plays both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges
  • Near-perfect compatibility with original and third-party Atari games
  • Includes the new Wireless CX78+ Gamepad
  • Widescreen or 4:3 window size
  • USB-C charging cable (power adapter not included)

The Atari 7800+ is now available for pre-order at $129.99 (€119.99 / £99.99). Scheduled for a global release in winter 2024.
